2020 RINA – QinetiQ Maritime Innovation Award

The Maritime Innovation Award, which is presented in conjunction with QinetiQ to an individual or organisation,  recognises outstanding scientific or technological research in the areas of hydrodynamics, propulsion, structures, and material, and which offers the potential to make significant improvements in the design, construction and operation of marine vessels and structures. The 2020 Award was presented to Shell Trading and Shipping Ltd and Silverstream Technologies (UK) Ltd.

THE 2020 RINA – QINETIQ MARITIME INNOVATION AWARD

Presented to Shell Trading and Shipping Ltd and Silverstream Technologies (UK) Ltd in recognition of their Research and Development project to install the Silverstream Air Lubrication System on a commercial Liquified Natural Gas Carrier (LNGC).

The retrofit installation was the first installation of the system on an LNG Carrier. This technology is one of a number of Energy Efficient Technologies that will help the shipping industry to achieve the International Maritime Organization's targets of achieving a 50% reduction in greenhouse-gas emissions by 2050.

It is indeed a worthy recipient of the RINA – QinetiQ Maritime Innovation Award.
