Technical Meeting - 4 April 2018

Fletcher Thompson, PhD candidate at the Australian Maritime College, gave a presentation on Robust Mission Planning for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles Cooperatively Inspecting Subsea Structures to a joint meeting with the IMarEST attended by 13 on 4 April in the Harricks Auditorium at Engineers Australia, Chatswood.

Sean Langman, Managing Director, Belinda Tayler, General Manager Defence and Commercial, and Tim Sullivan, Engineering Manager, gave a presentation on A New Lease of Life for Sydney’s Iconic Floating Dock to a joint meeting with the IMarEST attended by 60 on 7 March in the Harricks Auditorium at Engineers Australia, Chatswood. This was the second-highest attendance of the 103 technical presentations held at the Enginers Australia Chatswood venue, and second only to Sean’s presentation on The Quest for Speed Under Sail back in March 2014!

Alex Robbins, MATV Acquisition Engineering Manager, Contractor to Defence, gave a presentation on Acquisition of a Multi-role Aviation Training Vessel for the Royal Australian Navy Multihulls to a joint meeting with the IMarEST attended by 43 on 7 February May in the Harricks Auditorium at Engineers Australia, Chatswood.

SMIX Bash - 7 December 2017

The eighteenth SMIX (Sydney Marine Industry Christmas) Bash was held on Thursday 7 December aboard the beautifully-restored James Craig alongside Wharf 7, Darling Harbour, from 1730 to 2130. The Bash was organised jointly by the IMarEST (Sydney Branch) and RINA (NSW Section). About 185 guests came from the full spectrum of the marine industry, including naval architects, marine engineers, drafters, boatbuilders, machinery and equipment suppliers, regulators, classifiers, surveyors, operators, managers, pilots, navigators, researchers, and educators. Equally importantly, the full spectrum of age groups was represented, from present students to the elders of the marine community.

Selwyn Oliviera, Energy and Marine Division Manager with Alfa Laval Australia, gave a presentation on Ballast Water Treatment to a joint meeting with the IMarEST attended by 22 on 6 September in the auditorium at the Royal Prince Edward Yacht Club, Point Piper.

Steve Quigley, Managing Director of One2three Naval Architects, gave a presentation on Techncial Developments and Innovations on Wild Oats XI to a joint meeting with the IMarEST attended by 50 on 2 August in the Harricks Auditorium at Engineers Australia, Chatswood. This was the fourth-highest attendance of the 100 meetings held at the Chatswood venue.
