IMO Group
The IMO Group provides an opportunity for all members to raise and discuss matters relating to the Institution’s work and responsibilities as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) with Consultative Status at the IMO using the Group Forum.
The work and activities of the IMO Committee will be reported regularly in the Forum. Members may also comment on the Committee’s work, or propose matters for its consideration

Report of MSC 98
MSC 98 was held from 7 to 16 June 2017 and attended by members of the IMO Committee.
SUMMARY
Amendments were made to the following, and the majority were agreed:
o 1974 SOLAS
o IGF Code
o 1994 HSC Code
o 2000 HSC Code
o LSA Code
o IMSBC Code
All the amendments were deemed to be accepted on 1 July 2019 and enter into force on 1 January 2020. The amendment to the IMBSC Code will be accepted and enter into force one year earlier.
Other matters discussed at MSC98 included:
o Cyber Security
o The Polar Code
o The value of 'R' in SOLAS regulation II-1/6.
o The Safety Level Approach associated with Goal Cased Standards.
o Onboard Lifting Appliances and Winches.
o New work programme items on Autonomous Surface ships, and Amendments to SOLAS Ch. III and the LSA Code.
